The City of Edmonton is unique in the country with supporting citizen-centric approaches that nurture democracy and building power within the public to create stronger and more capable communities. Edmonton leads the country in the Abundant Community initiative with 25 participating neighbourhoods.
Block Connectors act as a point person for neighbours on their block. Since 2013, Abundant Community Edmonton has grown from one Block Connector to more than 300 across the city. And now, municipalities and organizations across North America and in Europe are using Edmonton's model to enhance social wellbeing in their own communities.
Abundant Community Edmonton is part of a large grassroots movement where people are coming together in their neighbourhoods to build networks of connection and friendship. The concept is championed by John McKnight and Peter Block in their book, The Abundant Community.
