August 9, 2015 - Basketball Success Returns to Edmonton

With the FIBA Americas Championship title and a berth at the 2016 Summer Olympics on the line, the current Canadian Women’s National Team seems poised for the gold on the road to Rio. In October 2014, the team placed 5th in the world at FIBA Women’s World Championships in Turkey - the best finish the team has had in almost 30 years.

Team Canada also managed to advance to the quarter finals at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. With their recent surge in success at exhibition games across Europe and their likely success at the Pan Am games in Toronto in July, Edmonton could be one of their final stops on the road to Rio.

Tickets for each of the games taking place in August are all currently on sale. They can be purchased either through Ticketmaster or at the University of Alberta sales office. The FIBA Americas Women’s Championship is an opportunity not only for Team Canada, but for Edmonton. Our city continues to prove itself as a world-class destination, and our reputation shows no sign of fading.
