Following research from engineering studies and the Edmonton Growth Study, the amendment seeks to add 4 quarter sections (260 hectares) to the original application of 3,625 hectares for approximately 3,900 hectares total.
“This is a minor update reflecting new engineering findings for cost efficient infrastructure development. As part of the process, updates can occur to reflect new information,” states David Hales, Executive Director, Regional Planning with the City of Edmonton.
2.1 million citizens will call Edmonton home in 50 years. Edmonton is planning for this growth by growing in, up and out. Edmonton has two separate applications east and west of the Queen Elizabeth II Highway and south of 41 Avenue. Other nearby municipalities are also seeking annexation to address growth needs.
