On September 14, 2014 Councillor Anderson attended and spoke at the opening of the Frank Victor Burton Field. The history of aviation in Edmonton forms part of our city’s unique identity. This event commemorated one of the earliest Alberta aviators, Frank Victor Burton. By helping to organize the Edmonton and Northern Alberta Aero Club into what is now the Edmonton Flying Club, Frank Victor Burton played an important role in establishing the roots of aviation in Edmonton.
Frank Victor Burton (1908 – 1972):
• Born and raised in Edmonton, Burton joined Edmonton and Northern Aero Club in 1927.
• He became bush pilot, flying into Yukon, northern Alberta and Northwest Territories.
• With the outbreak of the Second World War, he became chief engineer at No.16 Elementary Flying Training School in Edmonton.
