Preparations begin on arena site

"Work is now underway to prepare the arena site for the construction of Rogers Place, which is expected to start in March 2014.

Work includes removing trees on the arena site and upgrading the lot just north of Baccarat Casino to create a new entrance and parking spaces for casino patrons.

The new entrance for the Baccarat Casino will be off of 101 Street and 105 Avenue. The current entrance will remain open until the new access route is completed.

New parking stalls are being built north of the casino. These stalls will replace some of the existing parking which will be removed once construction on Rogers Place gets underway.

Trees on the site where Rogers Place will be built, which includes the boulevard, will be removed and chipped for recycling. The area will be re-landscaped through the arena budget and the City’s green and walkable program.

This work is expected to take two weeks to complete. The majority of the work will be done on site. No traffic disruptions are expected to occur.
